Japan’s King of the Sea, one of the world’s largest tall ships is now en route to Richmond for a rare North American visits as part of the City’s Canada 150 celebrations. Ships to Shore King of the Sea will be a free, multi-day festival of ship boarding and viewing, music, food, culture, and fireworks from May 5 to 7 in Richmond’s beautiful Garry Point Park along the Steveston waterfront.

The Kaiwo Maru will be available for free public viewing from its arrival on May 3 until its departure on May 8. Free public boarding will be available during the Ships to Shore King of the Sea festival from May 5 to 6. Ship boarding is free but a limited number of boarding passes will be available.

On Friday, May 5, a limited number of boarding passes will be held for school groups to book. The following time slots will be available and passes will be given out on a first come first serve basis:

  • 9:30am
  • 10:00am
  • 10:30am
  • 11:00am
  • 1:00pm
  • 1:30pm
  • 2:00pm
